ABOUT JONATHAN
Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon in London
I have been a knee specialist in London for over 20 years. My focus has always been on keeping people active and engaged in the activities they love. Throughout my career, I’ve helped countless individuals—children, teens, and adults—return to their sports and hobbies. My approach is dedicated to supporting recovery from injuries and managing painful conditions to restore both mobility and quality of life.
I’m highly experienced in managing ligament reconstructions, arthroscopic techniques, patellar femoral stabilisation surgery, and joint replacements. My belief is that many patients can be managed without surgery and will always explore nonoperative options with my patients. My passion for helping those wishing to return to sport extends to me taking my own patients skiing after surgery.
The majority of my patients come from recommendations from former patients or physiotherapists who have treated my patients. The rest come from other consultants or GP’s.
You may see me without a recommendation if you are self funding. To use insurance, simply request appointment authorisation from your provider. I’m recognised by all insurers.
The process
How to navigate your way to a return to full fitness
My three simple steps to recovery and what to expect if you need my help:
Listen
I want to know what you and I are aiming for early on in the process. This may involve sports you can’t do, hobbies you're missing out on, or travel plans affected by your issue. Once this is clear, we will discuss how to get you back to those things you want. The next step is to work out what’s stopping you being active.
Diagnosis
During our first consultation I'll give you an idea of what’s wrong. At this point scans or x-rays are helpful. We’ll discuss how and why your condition is stopping you from achieving what you want. We will discuss how serious the problem is, why it happened, and what might happen if we do nothing. Sometimes, things can improve on their own. Another important consideration is to help you understand what you can and can’t safely do so you don’t make the problem worse. Then, we’ll discuss treatment options.
Treatment
I’ll let you know if by waiting the problem will get better on its own. You may be interested to know what you can do to help yourself. I like to talk through non operating options even if it is to explain why that may not be best. I’m happy to try medicines or injectable treatments before surgery if there’s a reasonable chance it will work. If we agree that surgery is the best option, I have over 20 years of experience as a knee surgeon. Before making a decision to go ahead with surgery I’ll go through the risks, benefits, the recovery and what to expect. We can discuss the different types of anaesthesia available. I’ve collaborated with my anaesthetist for over 20 years and have published work on pain relief, day-case surgery, and post-surgical recovery.

01
Meniscal Treatments
Including complex repairs, arthroscopy (keyhole surgery), injectable treatments.
02
Patella Treatments
Including patella dislocation for patella dysplasia, patella tendinopathy, iliotibial band syndrome (runners’ knee), fat pad and unicompartmental patella replacement for isolated osteoarthritis of the patella.
03
Osteoarthritis Treatments
Including advice on non-operative care, injectables, osteotomy, joint preservation and joint replacements. These include full replacements, partial replacements, revision procedures and bespoke tailored knee replacements designed by software to recreate the natural shape and dimensions of your own knee.
04
Injured Ligaments
Including anterior cruciate, posterior cruciate, medial collateral, posterolateral corner and multi-ligament injuries.
05
Arthroscopy
Arthroscopy means to look into the joint with a camera. By using arthroscopy, I can carry out ligament surgery, meniscal surgery and treat joint surface problems.
06
Second Opinions
I see a significant number of patients requesting second opinions. Please be aware that these may not be standard “insured” appointments. I’ll try to keep within insurance guidelines for appointment length so you can use your insurance, but they often just take too long to do justice.
As many second opinions are spent clearing up poor communication problems I may request that you book a longer self-pay appointment. I’ll happily review each case on its merits.
Treating both insured and self-pay private patients
Jonathan is very happy to treat patients who are insured and wish to use their medical insurance to pay their bills but is also quite happy to see patients who wish to self fund their treatment. At all points he’ll be transparent about the costs involved and that there is never any obligation to proceed with treatment if you felt that it was not affordable or for you. If you’d like to make an enquiry please book now.
